'Arsenal dodged a bullet in not signing Vinicius Jr'

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit is not mincing his words regarding the failed pursuit of Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.

Speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest Premier League odds, Petit said: “Mikel Arteta has been rebuilding Arsenal step by step and I really liked the way they worked on the transfer market this summer, bringing some players in and trying to make the squad as competitive as possible. It was like watching them create a painting.

"I think Vinicius Jnr is a really talented player but in terms of his mentality I am not sure he is a good fit for Arsenal. That’s just my opinion.

"I see so many humble players at Arsenal so if you all of a sudden bring in someone who is completely different, it can be a problem, especially with Arteta’s style of management.

"Look at what happened between Vinicius Jnr and Jose Mourinho in the last game between Real Betis and Real Madrid. It reminded me of what happened with Xabi Alonso last season when he didn’t want to shake his hand.

"Vinicius Jnr receives so much stick from the fans, the press and social media but in those moments he is sending the wrong message. I think he is probably a bullet dodged for Arsenal looking at that moment.

"I would have loved to see a player with the talent of Vinicius Jnr play for Arsenal but with his mentality and his ego I think it would have made for a really difficult situation to cope with."

Tottenham close to Piero Ausilio sporting director appointment

Tottenham are closing in on the appointment of former Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ausilio is in talks with Spurs over becoming their new sporting director, with an agreement now close. He is expected to take up the role from the January transfer window.

Ausilio spent 16 years at Inter and played a key role in building the club into one of Serie A’s most successful sides.

Valencia have been hit by a major internal shake-up after the club announced the departure of football chief Ron Gourlay and several members of his staff.

The decision forms part of a significant restructuring at the Mestalla club, with the changes coming as Valencia attempt to reshape their sporting department.

Manchester United are stepping up their search for a new left-back after missing out on Lewis Hall.

Bournemouth defender Adrien Truffert has now emerged as a leading target as the club look for a long-term successor to Luke Shaw.

According to TEAMtalk, United are closely monitoring Truffert and have already laid the groundwork for a possible move. The 24-year-old is regarded as a strong alternative to Hall, who has committed his future to Newcastle with a new contract.

Truffert is valued at around £60m and remains under contract with Bournemouth until 2030. The Cherries are reluctant to sell, meaning a January move could prove difficult, with a deal next summer considered more realistic.

United are keen to strengthen at left-back after failing to make an addition during the summer window. Truffert has impressed since joining Bournemouth from Rennes and could now become their priority target as they plan for life beyond Shaw.

Endrick is facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid despite being close to returning from injury.

According to Sport, the 20-year-old has fallen behind Kylian Mbappe and new signing Carlos Espi in Jose Mourinho’s attacking plans after opting against a summer exit.

Endrick will have to make an immediate impact once he returns and prove that he can compete for regular opportunities, having attracted interest from the Premier League during the recent window.

Manchester United handed key Lewis Hall boost

Manchester United look to have been handed a new boost over Lewis Hall.

The Newcastle defender appears to be Michael Carrick’s No1 transfer target as he seeks a long-term left-back successor to Luke Shaw, who has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Though Manchester United were unable to get a deal done for Hall during a nightmare summer window for Newcastle in which they sold the likes of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon, they remain keen on a swoop either in January or at the end of the season.

talkSPORT claim that Newcastle could still sell Hall next summer despite reportedly agreeing a long-term contract extension with the player, while it is said that new deal crucially does not include a buyout clause.

Arsenal and Chelsea battle for Gabriel Rajkovic

Arsenal and Chelsea are leading the race to sign Norwegian wonderkid Gabriel Rajkovic, with both Premier League clubs stepping up their interest in the highly-rated teenager.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal and Chelsea have compiled extensive scouting dossiers on Rajkovic after watching him closely throughout the summer. Both clubs were also present when the 15-year-old scored his first top-flight goal for Valerenga against Bodo/Glimt in August.

Rajkovic has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough in 2026, establishing himself in Valerenga’s first-team squad despite his age. He also became the youngest player in Eliteserien history when he made his senior debut, breaking a record previously held by Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

However, Arsenal and Chelsea face strong competition for his signature, with Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Real Madrid and several other European clubs also understood to be monitoring his development.

Liverpool want two Chelsea targets in January

Liverpool have four targets for January after failing to add a new central midfielder during the summer window.

According to TEAMtalk, the Reds are monitoring four midfielders: Lamine Camara, Aleksandar Stankovic, Alex Scott and Manu Kone.

Camara is said to be high on the club’s list after senior figures made contact with his camp before his proposed move to Chelsea collapsed.

Monaco are reportedly open to selling Camara in January, although they are believed to want around €70million (£60m) for the Senegal international. The 22-year-old is said to have his heart set on a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal ready to make move for Nico Paz

Arsenal are preparing to make a move for Como attacking midfielder Nico Paz, with the Gunners reportedly ready to test Real Madrid’s plans for the Argentina international.

According to ElDesmarque, Arsenal are closely monitoring Paz and could make a formal approach in January 2027. The 22-year-old has continued to impress at Como and recently chose to remain in Italy rather than return to Real Madrid.

However, Real Madrid retain an €80m buy-back clause for Paz, which becomes active next summer. That gives the Spanish club significant control over the midfielder’s future and could complicate Arsenal’s plans.

Paz has made a strong start to the season, including a two-assist performance against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, further increasing interest in his services. Arsenal could now continue monitoring his situation ahead of a potential approach.
