Drive-thru coffee chain 7 Brew is one of the most intriguing stories in the retail sector. The Arkansas-based company is growing rapidly and has a cult-like following thanks to its stripped-down menu, fast service, and energetic baristas. That recipe has put pressure on established coffee chains such as Starbucks (SBUX), Dutch Bros (BROS), Dunkin', Scooter's Coffee, and Black Rock Coffee Bar (BRCB), as well as convenience-store operators in some markets.

The chain grew from 24 stores at the start of 2023 to 604 at the start of 2026 and now has more than 800, having opened 62 stands across 26 states in August alone. It is on track to surpass 1,000 locations by year-end. Earlier this year, 7 Brew launched a mobile app, began selling canned coffee at Walmart (WMT), and announced its first college-campus stand.

Almost all the growth comes from franchisees rather than company-owned stores. The company's 2026 plan calls for 437 franchise openings and about 10 corporate openings, with large, well-funded franchise groups driving much of the expansion. Investors such as Blackstone (BX) are backing the growth. The business model centers on small, low-cost drive-thru or walk-up stands with no seating. These locations are primarily in suburban areas and smaller markets with limited coffee competition, and they serve sweet, highly customizable drinks.

For investors, Blackstone's backing has fueled speculation about a potential 7 Brew IPO. The list of companies that went public while Blackstone (BX) was an investor includes Pinnacle Foods (CAG), SeaWorld Entertainment (PRKS), Catalent, and Invitation Homes (INVH).
