Tearful Regine Velasquez sings to fans ‘And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going’

Regine Velasquez brought the audience to tears on the last day of her “Finale” concert series as she delivered her final and emotional performance of Jennifer Holliday’s “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.”

“Never akong nakarelate sa kantang ‘to, until now. Isn’t that weird? I’m not even sure if I can actually sing it,” she said prior to her performance of the song on Monday, Oct. 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena. “And I don’t know if I can finish it because I’m going to be very emotional. This is the last time that I am going to sing it. Tsaka ako nakarelate.”

“Because this is what I feel about you guys. I don’t really—I don’t wanna leave. I don’t wanna go anywhere, but at the same time I know when to stop. I know my—I know it’s time to go,” she continued.

Despite her shaking voice, Velasquez received cheers and applause from tearful fans while she got candid about her decision to retire from singing some of her signature hits.

“This is very painful for me. I thought I was gonna be doing this for the rest of my life but as it turns out, I can’t,” she said.

“So I wanna leave you with this song. That’s very hard for me to do this. So pasensya na kayo if I actually butchered this song,” she continued, before belting out.

The crowd then further showered the Asia’s Songbird with love, giving her a standing ovation as she made her final bow.

Velasquez held her three-day concert series on Oct. 17 to 19, with guests including her husband Ogie Alcasid, “Do Re Mi” co-stars Donna Cruz and Mikee Cojuangco, and Jose Mari Chan. /edv
