‘Baywatch’ Trailer Dives Back into Lifeguard Drama

Translate

Fox‘s update of Baywatch is not trying to reinvent the original show: The cast is again made up of very attractive people playing Los Angeles lifeguards, and it’s going to mix high-stakes rescues and personal drama.

A full-length trailer further drives home the point — after all, why mess with what, as the video notes, was once the most popular show in the world? Soundtracked to the original show’s theme song, “I’m Always Here,” the trailer features a small plane crash, a wildfire in the hills near the beach, an exploding lifeguard tower and a healthy bit of interpersonal drama between the team, led by Stephen Amell’s Hobie Buchannon. Watch it below.

Here’s the full description for Baywatch: “Hobie is serving as a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch [played by David Hasselhoff in the original series]. Hobie’s world is turned upside down when his daughter Charlie Vale (Jessica Belkin) shows up on his doorstep eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy.”

Hassie Harrison, Shay Mitchell, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck and Brooks Nader also star. Livvy Dunne and David Chokachi, a regular on the original, will have recurring roles. The show films on Venice Beach and other locations in Los Angeles.

Fox Entertainment Studios and Fremantle are producing Baywatch. Matt Nix (Burn Notice) executive produces with McG — who also directed the series premiere — Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz.
