Cristiano Ronaldo brings his international football career to an end

Translate

Cristiano Ronaldo announced his retirement from international football on Thursday, ending his 23-year career with Portugal. At 41, the Al-Nassr forward leaves the national team with 234 caps and 146 goals, both world records. As captain, he helped Portugal win Euro 2016 and two Nations League titles in 2019 and 2025. The decision comes after several weeks of tension with head coach Jorge Jesus, following Ronaldo's departure from the Portugal squad in September.

In the Europa League, Marseille got their campaign back on track with a 1-0 win at Bayer Leverkusen, thanks to a goal from Amine Gouiri.

Lyon, meanwhile, drew 1-1 away to Real Sociedad, with captain Corentin Tolisso scoring the equaliser.

In the Conference League, Monaco made it three wins from three matches with a 2-0 victory over Danish side Nordsjaelland.

In the EuroLeague, Paris Basketball beat Anadolu Efes 95-90, led by Nadir Hifi's 28 points and 9 assists, while ASVEL lost 95-99 to Bayern Munich.

At the Summer Youth Olympics, Mady Sow won silver in badminton and Mana Ishikawa claimed her fourth gold medal in swimming.

Finally, at the Rolex Paris Masters, Arthur Fils was knocked out in the last 16 by Taylor Fritz (6-3, 6-4). Quentin Halys and Arthur Rinderknech were also eliminated. Luca Van Assche is the only French player to reach the quarter-finals, after beating Lorenzo Musetti (7-5, 3-6, 6-4).
