Flights from UK airports among three targeted by bomb threats

Translate

Two passenger planes are being inspected after landing in Warsaw after separate bomb threats, one of which led to the brief closure of the city's Modlin airport.

The airport said a flight from London Heathrow with 181 people on board had highlighted the alert en route to Warsaw's main Chopin airport and landed at Modlin, on the capital's northern outskirts shortly afterwards. The flight was operated by Polish flag carrier LOT.

A second flight from Copenhagen, also bound for Chopin airport, reported a bomb threat, Danish media reported. The SAS plane landed as scheduled.

The two incidents come the day after a Wizz Air flight from London Luton made an emergency landing in Budapest, escorted by a Hungarian fighter jet, after a bomb threat.

Warsaw Modlin airport, which is used mainly by budget airlines, said a Boeing 737 Max aircraft had landed at 10:01 (09:01 GMT) and that passengers had later disembarked.

It said later that air operations had resumed and that the plane subjected to a "possible bomb threat is currently being checked by relevant authorities".

Meanwhile, a spokesman from Chopin airport said that one of the runways on the airport apron had been closed but operations were not significantly impacted.

The threats to the Warsaw-bound planes came after a Wizz Air flight heading from Luton to Sofia in Bulgaria was forced to make an emergency landing in Hungary.

The airline said later that security checks had been made and nothing was found.
