Hudson Williams Says He’s Writing a Film Featuring an ‘Ex-Hockey Player’ and Is ‘Getting Tripped Up’ by ‘Heated Rivalry’ Parallels

Hudson Williams is working on a new film and is “getting tripped up” over a “Heated Rivalry” parallel.

Prior to the success of the Canadian queer hockey romance that catapulted the actor to fame over the past year, Williams wrote and directed several short films, including “Soakers,” “Buttons” and “Inside Augustine Mendoza’s Quotidian Apartment.” Now, the actor says he is writing a new project where one character is a former hockey player.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly for “Yaga,” the Canadian witchy detective-thriller Williams stars in, the actor responded to co-star Carrie-Anne Moss’ hang-up over referencing real-life friend Keanu Reeves’ “John Wick” franchise in the show.

“I’m writing a movie right now, but one character is an ex-hockey player,” he said. “We were like, ‘But if we have this hockey player and then you’ve done a hockey show…’ We’re getting tripped up on it and we’re considering other sports, but for some reason this character just made way more sense being an ex-hockey player. It’s almost like you have to bust through the prison of your own mind or construct of your own mind.”

The actor did not elaborate on the nature of the project. It’s far from the only thing Williams is currently or recently working on: “Yaga” premiered on Oct. 23, and production began on the second season of “Heated Rivalry” in August. He will also appear in the dark comedic thriller “Apparatus” opposite Dylan O’Brien, and in the ensemble culinary thriller “Tyrant” with Charlize Theron, Julia Garner, Demi Moore and Omar Apollo.
