‘Fast & Furious’ TV Adaptation Ordered to Series by Peacock, Eyed for 2028 Premiere

The “Fast & Furious” TV series, first revealed to be in development earlier this year at the NBCUniversal upfronts, is closer to reality. Peacock announced Thursday that it has greenlit a new scripted television series based on the franchise.

Vin Diesel, who revealed that a “Fast & Furious” scripted series was in development during the upfront presentation in May, is an executive producer along with One Race’s Sam Vincent (One Race), Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty, and Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan.

Mike Daniels (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Shades of Blue,” “The Rockford Files”) and Wolfe Coleman (“Shades of Blue,” “911: Lone Star”) will serve as co-showrunners, pilot writers and executive producers.

According to Peacock, the streamer is looking to premiere the “Fast & Furious” series by 2028.

Premiere would coincide with the next film installment, “Fast Forever,” which has been slated to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.

Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.

“For the last decade, we have realized that the fans have wanted more,” Diesel said at the upfront in May. “They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space that Fallon has mastered. And I had to wait till it was right… It became right when Donna Langley started to oversee it all, because that’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family would be protected in the TV space… The news that I have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the ‘Fast and Furious’ universe.”

Previously in TV, Netflix aired the animated series “Fast & Furious Spy Racers” for six seasons between 2019 and 2021.

In case you’re one of the few out there who doesn’t know what the “Fast & Furious” franchise is about, here’s NBCU’s explainer: “This year marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of one of the most iconic film franchises in cinema history. On June 22, 2001, Universal Pictures released “The Fast and the Furious,” a high-octane thriller set amid the street-racing culture of Los Angeles. The film — starring Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner, Jordana Brewster as Mia and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty — would ignite a cultural phenomenon.”
