'Game of Thrones' movie 'Aegon's Conquest' gets release date

'Game of Thrones' is finally heading to the big screen!After years of ruling television and the OTT space, Warner Bros. has announced that 'Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest' will arrive in theatres on June 1, 2029.Directed by Owen Harris and written by Beau Willimon, this will mark the first feature film in the 'GOT' franchise. As per reports, the film is based on George R.R. Martin’s 'A Song of Ice and Fire' fantasy series, which inspired HBO’s hugely successful Game of Thrones television adaptation. It will reportedly turn the clock back to the origins of Targaryen rule in Westeros and explore King Aegon I's conquest of Westeros and the setting up of the Iron Throne.This update comes months after Warner Bros. officially confirmed the project at CinemaCon earlier this year. Plans for a film production on the hit book series, have been discussed for more than a decade. In 2013, two years after the HBO series premiered, creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss reportedly pitched the idea of concluding the show with three feature films. The series ultimately wrapped up with its eighth and final season in May 2019.

The franchise has continued on television with 'House of the Dragon', which aired its third season this summer, while 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' is expected to return for its second season next year.Harris, who has directed episodes of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms', is also known for his work on 'Black Mirror' and 'Mrs. Davis'. Willimon, on the other hand, created 'House of Cards' and was among the writers of the 'Star Wars' series 'Andor'.George RR Martin had previously expressed his reservations about taking the 'Game of Thrones' universe to the big screen, explaining in 2015 that he did not want portions of his books to be cut while adapting it for film. He was also worried that a movie could end up focusing primarily on characters such as Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen.
