NCCE engages women’s groups on rule of law and anti-corruption

Translate

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Krachi East Municipality has organised a follow-up civic engagement with women's groups to strengthen public understanding of the rule of law, accountability and the fight against corruption.

The engagement forms part of the Commission’s Civic Engagements on the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption project, which seeks to promote civic awareness and encourage citizens to uphold the principles of good governance.

The initiative builds on earlier awareness campaigns conducted in the 60 project districts, which equipped women’s groups with knowledge of the rule of law, corruption, accountability, civic responsibilities, legal protections and available reporting mechanisms.

According to the NCCE, initial engagements have shown the importance of sustained civic education in translating knowledge into practical action.

It said continuous engagement, reinforcement of key messages and opportunities for participants to share their experiences and challenges were essential to promoting lasting behavioural change.

The Commission observed that women continued to encounter corruption in their daily interactions with public institutions, markets and service providers.

It noted that barriers such as fear of victimisation, limited knowledge of reporting procedures and cultural norms that discouraged speaking out against wrongdoing could prevent some women from reporting corrupt practices.

The follow-up engagement is therefore intended to assess how participants have applied the knowledge gained during the initial sessions, reinforce positive attitudes and behaviours, address misconceptions and strengthen their capacity to promote integrity and accountability within their families, workplaces and communities.

The initiative also seeks to empower women to become active advocates for transparency, accountability and the rule of law.

The NCCE Krachi East Municipal Office has invited participants from the initial engagement to attend the follow-up session at the Church of Pentecost, Dambai Central Assembly.

The engagement forms part of broader efforts to deepen civic participation and promote responsible citizenship in the fight against corruption.

The engagement featured over 60 women who reflected on their first engagement, success, challenges and lessons learned from the Krachi East Municipal Director, NCCE, under the auspices of Mr Clement Kwesi Mamadu,

Participants came from across the municipality, where facilitators reminded them of previous engagements and asked whether they were applying them in their daily activities.

Chief Inspector Mr Charles Adams of Dambai Division Command led the participants through a reflection on their previous encounters, successes, challenges, and lessons learned.

He then guided them in applying the Rule of Law in everyday life and reminded them of practical experiences in identifying and responding to corruption.

Mr Samuel Annan (ADO1), of the Krachi East Municipal Fire Command, also engaged participants on overcoming barriers to reporting corruption and building community integrity through women's association.

He again said that personal and collective commitment to promote transparency must be treated fairly.
