From minions to oompa-loompas and cowboys, dogs and their owners donned their spookiest outfits to celebrate Howl-oween.

The canines – of many different breeds – were decked out in an adorable array of costumes alongside their human counterparts.

The colourful outfits included a gladiator, the boxing legend Rocky, a police officer, a pasta box, a clown, Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, and Paddington bear.

Dozens took part in the festivities in Chicago, Illinois, where the 39th Annual Streeterville Dog (and Cat) Halloween Party & Parade took place.

The event brings together costumed pets and their owners for a parade and costume contest.

It was held in the sculpture garden of the city's Museum of Contemporary Art on Saturday.
