New Streaming Service Alert: JustWatch Is Starting Its Own Platform

JustWatch, the streaming guide that tells you where to watch movies, TV shows or sports events, is launching a new streaming service. The company shared the news during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday, where Quentin Carbonell, JustWatch’s senior VP of global content and strategy, said JustWatch TV will be available in October. 

Viewers will have access to three options on the platform, including a free ad-based streaming service, titles available to rent or purchase, and a paid subscription offering. Upon launch, JustWatch TV’s catalog will carry content from several providers, including Fremantle, Paramount and Bleecker Street, and you’ll be able to watch within the app.

What’s a little extra about the service is that if a title isn’t available on the JustWatch TV streaming platform, the app will point you to where you can stream it, even if it’s on another platform like Hulu or Netflix. Because it’s built into the existing JustWatch website and app, functionality from the company’s ubiquitous streaming guide will be part of the streaming service itself. 

JustWatch TV will first roll out in the US, along with France, Germany, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. The company plans to expand its library and regional availability in the future. 

Pricing for the paid version has not been revealed, but it’s set to offer movies only with no ad breaks. The free, ad-supported option will have TV shows and movies available.
