Rigathi Gachagua Slams DP Kindiki’s Cultural Coronation During US Diaspora Meeting

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has publicly dismissed the recent coronation of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki by GEMA community elders, interpreting a symbolic mishap during the event as a moment of cultural and spiritual rejection.

Addressing members of the Kenyan diaspora on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Matt Ross Community Center in Kansas City, United States, Gachagua pointed out that a traditional cultural headpiece placed on Kindiki fell to the ground during the ritual. The former Deputy President framed the incident as a sign that ancestral spirits and authentic community elders rejected the exercise.

Gachagua criticized the ceremony as a hypocritical attempt by government figures to preach regional unity after previously attempting to fracture the Mt. Kenya voting bloc. He argued that genuine community elders who truly represent the region would never sanction such a coronation.

“The elders are saying these guys think we are fools,” Gachagua told the town hall audience. “You come to a meeting to tell elders we tried to divide the mountain and we have failed, and therefore the mountain cannot be divided; it should be one.”

The DCP leader reiterated that political legitimacy in the region cannot be manufactured through stage-managed cultural rituals, insisting that the electorate remains united despite state-backed efforts to install alternative leadership in Mt. Kenya.
