To heaven or hell: Which road are you on?

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said (Mat 7:13): “Enter by the narrow gate, since the road that leads to destruction is wide and spacious, and many take it; but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” You will not find the narrow gate by following the crowd.

“A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.” These words from a wise man of the modern world can help you look at your life. You need to ask: “ Am I one of those people just floating down the river? Or I am fighting against the tide of vice, fraud and promiscuity?”

If you are doing what everyone else around is doing, you are in trouble. That is because you are living in a world where corruption is rampant. Nothing much has changed since Jesus once lamented that, even in his days, he was living in the midst of an adulterous generation (Mt 11:21): “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.”

Is it hard to live a Christian life? Yes. That is exactly what Jesus is getting at when he says that the road that leads to the narrow gate is a hard road. Is it really true that very few take that road, or is the world better today than it was in the days of Jesus? Look around and decide for yourself. Just remember what Jesus said. One road leads to heaven. The other road leads to hell. Which road are you on?
