PSSI chief urges warm welcome for foreign fans at FIFA ASEAN Cup

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Chairman Erick Thohir urged Indonesian football fans to warmly welcome supporters of foreign teams competing in the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup in Jakarta and Bandung.

“We hope that supporters of guest teams such as Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam will be properly received here,” he said during a parade ahead of the tournament in Jakarta.

Speaking at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout on Sunday, Thohir expressed confidence that Indonesians would support the national team responsibly, helping ensure a safe and comfortable environment throughout the inaugural championship.

Thohir, who also serves as youth and sports minister, said hospitality would be essential for Indonesia to demonstrate that it is a good and reliable co-host of the regional tournament.

“Everyone must give their best to the nation and the state,” he said.

He also hoped the competition would run smoothly and give Indonesian fans an opportunity to show visiting teams and supporters that Indonesia is a welcoming country.

Indonesia and Hong Kong will co-host the first FIFA-sanctioned Southeast Asian football championship, featuring all 11 ASEAN countries and three guest teams from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5.

Jakarta and Bandung will host all Division 1 matches, featuring Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Hong Kong will host Division 2 matches involving Laos, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Timor-Leste.

Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and Bandung's Si Jalak Harupat Stadium have been designated as Division 1 venues.

Jakarta held the Roll to Glory FIFA ASEAN Cup Family Parade during its regular car-free day program on Sept. 13 to build public enthusiasm, featuring Indonesian football legends and FIFA representatives.
