Euromatch NPFL: Sporting Lagos Coach Buter Summoned Over Referee Remarks

Translate

Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter has been summoned by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) over comments he made following his side’s home clash against Barau FC.

Sporting Lagos were held to a 1-1 draw by Barau FC in the keenly contested matchday six encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos last month.

Following the match, Buter launched a scathing criticism of the standard of refereeing in the NPFL, questioning the performance of Niger State-born referee Abubakar Abdullahi.

The NPFL has taken exception to the coach’s remarks and has invited him to appear before the league body at its headquarters in Abuja this week.

The league authorities have also warned coaches and club officials against making public statements or critical comments capable of undermining the credibility of match officials.

According to the NPFL, any grievances concerning officiating must be channelled through the appropriate administrative procedures rather than public criticism, in a bid to protect the image, integrity and sponsorship interests of the league.
