Women’s Asia Cup 2026: Deepti brushes aside India’s fielding woes, says team ready for final

All-rounder Deepti Sharma has brushed aside concerns regarding the Indian cricket team’s fielding at the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2026 taking place in Dubai. Dropped catches are part an parcel of the game, she said.

Deepti said the side was instead focussed on putting up a stong all-round show in the summit clash and reclaim the title.

Despite winning all its encounters in the tournament so far, India has been lacklustre in the field and was guilty of dropping four chances during the semifinal against Bangladesh.

“As a team in fielding, we have been doing good [work in training]. We are doing practice sessions, taking catches, as well as [ground] fielding also,” Deepti said after India’s win.

“I think that it will be a day here or a day there; it happens. But we are always up for the finals as a team in all three departments,” she added.

Deepti once again put up a solid all-round display, scoring a six-ball 13 before returning figures of 3/26 against Bangladesh.

“Whenever I get an opportunity in batting, I always trust that I can contribute in batting also. So I’m glad (about the) few balls I got to hit today.

“It always gives me confidence. Either bowling first or batting first doesn’t matter to me, but I always contribute as an all-rounder for the team.”
