Jojo Ang’s 4 out of 14 graft cases consolidated in Sandiganbayan

MANILA, Philippines — Four out of the 14 counts of graft charges against Uswag Ilonggo party-list Rep. Jojo Ang are now consolidated in the Sandiganbayan Second Division.

Ang’s counsel Luis Veracruz said the anti-graft court’s Fourth Division issued a resolution allowing the consolidation of the two counts of graft the said division had handled to the Second Division, which is also handling two other counts.

“Four cases [were consolidated] in just two divisions, the rest are pending,” Veracruz said in an ambush interview.

In his arraignment, Ang pleaded not guilty to both counts of graft under the Second Division.

His pretrial was supposed to proceed after his arraignment.

However, Presiding Justice Geralinde Faith Econg, the Second Division chair, rescheduled the pretrial to Sept. 15 due to the Fourth Division’s granting of consolidation.

“The records [from the Fourth Division] were not yet endorsed to the Second Division,” Veracruz said.

Prosecutors indicted Ang for alleged violation of Section 3(h) of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

Ang allegedly had a stake in a construction firm that won P214 million in public works contracts while being a sitting party-list representative. /das
