Delhi Police Crime Branch has summoned CJP leaders Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to its Rajouri Garden office

NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka will not appear before the Delhi Police Crime Branch for questioning on Thursday after seeking more time, sources told ANI.

Police are expected to issue a fresh notice to the two leaders, the sources said. The Crime Branch had summoned Das and Ranka to its Rajouri Garden office on Thursday, a day after they were released from judicial custody. The two were released after a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court accepted their personal and surety bonds and recorded their written undertakings to maintain peace and abide by the law.SEM Ritu Raj directed them to furnish personal and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each until the conclusion of the enquiry.

They were also instructed to appear on every hearing date and comply with the conditions specified in their bonds and undertakings. In their written undertakings, the leaders promised not to breach peace or disturb public tranquillity. They also agreed not to call for protests at Jantar Mantar until the site is denotified in accordance with the law, and said any future demonstrations would be held within the constitutional framework.

The two leaders were detained in connection with an October 13 protest at Jantar Mantar, which had been denotified as a designated protest site. Police alleged that they entered the area through private premises and violated conditions related to maintaining peace. The Delhi Police had earlier sought a further three-day extension of their judicial custody, citing concerns over a possible breach of peace and law and order. Police also pointed to alleged differences between statements made by the leaders before the court and their subsequent remarks to the media. The matter is scheduled for further proceedings before the SEM court on October 23 at 3 pm. Das, Ranka and their sureties have been directed to remain present.
