The entire Indian cricketing ecosystem is trying to solve the Vaibhav Sooryavanshi riddle. With the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan doing well with the bat, head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Shreyas Iyer have had no option but to put Sooryavanshi on the bench. The 15-year-old opener has been asked to 'wait' for his opportunity as the competition at the top remains extremely fierce. However, former India batter Aakash Chopra has offered a solution to the problem, but he claims that no one is in agreement with him.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra responded to a query asking if Sooryavanshi could be accommodated in the team by dropping Tilak Varma. However, he is not in agreement at all. For him, there are only three players Sooryavanshi can replace: Abhishek, Samson, and Ishan.
"Vaibhav Sooryavanshi isn't getting chances because a place isn't being created for him. In whose place should you play him? To be fair, he can play only in place of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, or Ishan Kishan," Chopra said in the video.
"When three people are doing well, you can't get a chance suddenly. I know it is heartbreaking, but there is no other way. No one is agreeing with the method I am suggesting. You can do a rotation. Give chances to all four of them in rotation," he added.
Speaking of Tilak, who has had to play various roles for the Indian team, Chopra said that his performances as a finisher have been quite reliable. Hence, Chopra does not feel there should even be a discussion around Tilak's contribution to the team.
"The World Cup didn't start well, but after that, ever since he became a finisher, he has done a good job, whether you see the performances in the Asian Games or now. The fact is that he has been doing really well in the middle order and the lower-middle order. So, I feel shooting arrows at Tilak Varma is not right," Chopra observed.
