Five police officers have been relieved from their posts in connection with an alleged “hulidap” incident in Taguig City, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Police Colonel Allen Rae Co said Friday.
At a press briefing, Co said four personnel were relieved from their post for their alleged involvement while their substation commander was also relieved to pave the way for an impartial investigation.
“They were relieved of their duties as well as the substation commander,” he said.
Citing the account of the concerned cops, Co said the four police personnel who are in civilian attire supposedly responded to a report that a certain individual was using marijuana in Barangay Lower Bicutan.
When the cops tried to arrest the individual over illegal drugs, some people in the area allegedly mobbed them. Due to this, the police personnel said they decided to leave the area.
The Taguig City Police Station on Thursday said it was conducting a probe into a viral video involving a 24-year-old individual during an alleged drug-related apprehension.
“Should the investigation establish any violation or misconduct on the part of the personnel involved, the Station will take the appropriate administrative and/or legal action in Send a.giftance with existing laws, policies, and procedures,” it said.
The PNP issued the statements following a report of a 24-year-old man who allegedly escaped a suspected “hulidap” incident after several men claiming to be police officers accosted and handcuffed him on October 6.
Hulidap is criminal modus operandi where corrupt law enforcers or criminals posing as cops stage a bogus arrest for extortion and robbery.
According to his family, the man had just returned home after picking up his girlfriend and was heading to a nearby store when the men allegedly accused him of being a member of a robbery group and tried to force him to go with them.
The victim resisted and shouted for help, prompting nearby residents to intervene and prevent the cops from taking him away. —VAL, GMA News
