Officers are currently “engaging” with protesters at the Port of Dover, Kent Police has said.

In a brief statement, the force said: “We are aware of a protest currently taking place at the Port of Dover. Officers are in attendance and engaging with protesters.”

The BBC reports the demonstrators are wearing masks and preventing traffic from accessing the port.

In a statement on X, the port said: “The Port of Dover can confirm that there is an ongoing public order incident happening around the town of Dover. This is affecting all routes in and out the port and the town.

“We are in contact with Kent Police to understand the situation. This situation is impacting our local community and our customers, so of course we are hoping for a swift resolution.”

National Highways said the A20 is facing delays in both directions between the A256 (York Street) and A2 (Jubilee Way).

It added: “A large number of protesters are blocking three separate locations bringing all traffic entering the Port of Dover to a standstill.”

Drivers can expect delays of 45 minutes on approach and there are four miles of congestion.
