Thursday’s reports claim that Juventus are hoping to extend Nico Gonzalez’s contract in the coming weeks following his loan spell with Atletico Madrid and recent re-integration into the Bianconeri squad.

Nico Gonzalez joined Juventus on loan with an obligation to buy from Fiorentina in the summer of 2024 in a deal that had the potential to cost €41.1m with all bonuses and add-ons included. His 2024-25 campaign brought five goals and four assists from 38 appearances in a slightly underwhelming season that was impacted by injuries and managerial changes.

He was then sent out on loan to Atletico Madrid for the 2025-26 season, with a potential obligation to buy for a fee of €32m. In the end, the Argentine did not quite reach the number of Serie A appearances required for that obligation to buy clause to be activated.

Reports over the summer made it clear that both Nico Gonzalez and Atletico Madrid were keen to continue together for the 2026-27 season, but that the Spanish side were unwilling to pay €32m to match their previous obligation to buy clause.

Despite weeks of talks, an agreement was not reached and Nico Gonzalez eventually returned to training with Juventus in Turin.

With injuries to several key Juventus starters at the beginning of the 2026-27 season, Nico Gonzalez had gone on to play an important role under Luciano Spalletti before the international break, appearing in the last four Serie A matches and starting in all of the last three. He also earned a return to the Argentina national team squad for Lionel Messi’s farewell to international football in the process.

Now, according to reports from various sources on Thursday, including the likes of Fabrizio Romano, Matteo Moretto and Romeo Agresti, Juventus are hoping to tie Nico Gonzalez down to a new deal in the coming weeks.

This would prolong the 2029 deadline in his current contract and would likely come with an increase in wages as well.

According to Matteo Moretto on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, new talks have been planned and Juventus are hoping to ‘accelerate’ in the next few weeks.
