Netflix's soapy drama branded "emotionally rich" has future confirmed - and fans aren't happy

It's bad news if you happen to be a fan of Ransom Canyon, as it has been reported that the romance drama has been cancelled by Netflix after two seasons. Though not officially confirmed by the streamer, one star has commented on the reported axing.

The cancellation was first reported by Deadline, which wrote that the streamer had decided to not proceed with a third season due to declining viewing figures. It also noted that a creative overhaul occurred after the first season, but it hasn't proven fruitful.

The series is based on Jodi Thomas's collection of novels, and follows three ranching dynasties as they vie for control of the land. They also have some outside forces to contend with, which put them in great danger.

Developed by April Blair, the cast for the romance drama includes Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, Eoin Macken, Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Ben Robson and Jack Schumacher. Patricia Clarkson, meanwhile, had a recurring role in the second season.

Kelly, who played Quinn O'Grady in the series, commented on the reports via Instagram, and seemingly confirmed their accuracy. She shared a clip from the neo-Western drama, calling it a "trip down memory lane".

"Appreciating this little trip down memory lane as we say farewell. All good things must come to an end. And so it is," she wrote in the caption. "Thank you all for giving us two beautiful seasons! I love you forever my Ransom Canyon family!!"

The comment section was filled with several disappointed fans, with one writing: "Netflix, as always, messing things up. This series was my favourite; it brought me immense comfort. I loved it so much. And Netflix went and cancelled it. It hurts so much."

"Bad decision @netflix!!!! My husband & I love this show! We binged Season 2 as soon as it came out! I really hope someone else picks it up!! @paramountnetwork you're up!!" wrote a second fan, while a third suggested that they start a "petition" to revive the series.

Ransom Canyon was generally praised by viewers, with IMDb currently reporting a solid user rating of 6.8/10 from 13,000 logs. In one 10/10 review, one fan likened it to Yellowstone and Virgin River as they called it "emotionally rich".

It did, however, garner a more mixed response from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season has a middling approval rating of 48%, while the second season has a marginally higher score of 50%.
