The Ogun State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Adeola Olamilekan, has said the state should deliver at least two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, spoke on Saturday at the inauguration of the Ogun State executives of the CityBoy Movement and the commissioning of the group’s state secretariat in Abeokuta.

The movement, a grassroots support group for Tinubu, is mobilising support for the president’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 poll.

“Ogun State has over three million registered voters, and with this number, I believe we should give President Tinubu at least two million votes in 2027,” Olamilekan said.

He praised Tinubu for projects and federal support to Ogun State, saying the president’s administration had delivered significant benefits to the state.

Among the projects he highlighted were the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, the establishment of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta and the upgrade of Tai Solarin University of Education to a federal institution.

The event was attended by Minister of State for Health, Ishaq Salako; Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare; and the President’s Personal Assistant on Special Duties, Alhaji Kamorudeen Yusuf.

Governor Dapo Abiodun was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

In his address, the Ogun State Director-General of the CityBoy Movement, Dr Abdulateef Sulaimon, said the group was committed to engaging young people and encouraging participation in the democratic process.

He disclosed that the movement had registered more than 150,000 active members in the state within a month of commencing its membership drive, adding that it aimed to build a verifiable grassroots network of over 500,000 members before January 2027.

The movement’s National Director-General, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, charged the newly inaugurated executives to extend the group’s activities to all 20 local government areas of Ogun State and build a disciplined grassroots structure ahead of the election.

Shoga urged the executives to regard their appointments as a call to service and commended Yusuf for his leadership and commitment to the movement in the state.
