Oasis reportedly sue auction house over sale of unheard and rare recordings
Oasis are reportedly suing an auction house over a planned sale of unheard and rare recordings.
A collection of 63 concert recordings, over 100 hours of rehearsals, soundchecks and “unfiltered dialogue” between Noel and Liam Gallagher was due to be auctioned on October 3, with a guide price of between £1.2million and £1.6million.
Among the archive, which was listed by Littleton Auctions and dubbed The Desk Tapes, is what is believed to be the only recording of the band’s iconic 1996 concert on the banks of Loch Lomond in Scotland.
The master recordings were gathered by Oasis’s former sound engineer Huw Richards, who worked with the band from the release of their 1994 debut ‘Definitely Maybe’, up until 2001. He recorded the tapes directly from the sound desk.

However, the Gallagher brothers reportedly expressed they were unhappy with the auction, with Richards’ son, Owain Richards, claiming the band want the trove “back in their possession”.
Now, according to the auction house via the London Evening Standard, an injunction has been issued by the band and the sale has been suspended.
Managing director Ben Homer told the publication: “Littleton Auctions confirms that the Oasis recordings known as The Desk Tapes have been withdrawn from our October 3 auction in light of legal proceedings. We are very disappointed that we cannot offer this significant archive as planned.”
Homer added: “The rest of the sale is unaffected and will take place as normal. We respect the legal process and will make no further comment on the proceedings at this stage.”
Richards son, Owain Richards, also said: “It is true that Oasis have sued me and my father to try to prevent the auction of the tapes made by my father many years ago. We have agreed to postpone the auction (of the tapes) to enable the legal dispute to be resolved either by litigation or otherwise in an orderly way.”
A spokesperson for Oasis has refused to comment on the matter.
The remaining memorabilia at the auction, featuring original setlists, internal tour itineraries, a band-played Epiphone guitar and an original Kangol Oasis tour Parka, will still go ahead.
Elsewhere, Liam Gallagher recently suggested Oasis will discuss making new music after their upcoming ‘Live ’27’ tour.
The ‘Live ’27’ tour was announced on September 14 after months of speculation. Noel revealed that the band had decided to head out again following their second Wembley show on the ‘Live ’25’ tour in July 2025, explaining: “We were having such a great time… why wouldn’t we?”
The run was subsequently expanded due to “phenomenal demand”, and all 42 dates have now sold out. The tour includes five nights at Glasgow’s Celtic Park, 11 at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium, six at Knebworth, two at Slane Castle and dates across mainland Europe and the US.
Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that the Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger documentary, will arrive on Disney+ with “exclusive unseen footage” on October 9.
