Karol G Reveals Why No. 1 Hit “BbY WOW” Almost Didn’t Make Her Album
Karol G’s “BbY WOW” is spending its third consecutive week at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts. But, as it turns out, the song almost didn’t make her album at all.
In a new interview with LOS40, Karol G revealed that “BbY WOW,” her collaboration with Spanish artists Judeline and rusowsky, was initially left off No Me Arrepiento de Sentir Tanto because she didn’t believe the song was finished. “I didn’t feel like it was finished. It wasn’t going on the album,” she recalled.
The Colombian superstar originally wrote the song in January with Judeline and her team, but continued feeling like something was missing. While immersing herself in alternative, indie, ambient, and pop-rock music during the making of the album, she became particularly interested in rusowsky, whose music she described as “the perfect balance” between alternative and urban sounds.
“I kept thinking, ‘It needs rusowsky,’” Karol explained, adding that she also felt Judeline could bring “something magical” to the track.
Judeline and rusowsky recorded their parts remotely from different locations in Spain, sending them back just in time. “The moment I received the verses, I published the official tracklist,” Karol said. She particularly praised rusowsky’s contribution, saying his verse “put the cherry on top.”
The gamble paid off. “BbY WOW” became Karol G’s fourth No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and her fifth on Global Excl. U.S. The three of them performed the song together live for the first time last week during Karol’s “Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour” stop at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
