Queen Camilla joins Zara Tindall for race day at Ascot

Translate

Queen Camilla and the King’s niece, Zara Tindall, made appearances at Berkshire’s Ascot racecourse on Saturday, cheering on the action from the Royal Box.

The racecourse was host to British Champions Day, which is billed as the country’s richest race day, with £4.35 million in prize money up for grabs.

The end-of-season event has been running since 2011.

Camilla wore a navy hat and a bright blue button-down coat dress, with a horseshoe pin on her lapel.

Zara, a queen equestrian and the daughter of the Princess Royal, wore a grey tweed jacket and grey hat, brown leather skirt, and slouchy suede boots, and sported a dark manicure.

The pair were seen hugging, chatting, and laughing with each other in the crowd.

Camilla enjoyed a drink in the Royal Box, where her ex-husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, was also spotted.

The Queen also chose Talk Of New York as the best turned out horse at the event, before the colt went on to win the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes victory.

Talk Of New York is owned by the racing team Godolphin, which was founded by United Arab Emirates prime minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and trained by Charlie Appleby.

Camilla was pictured smiling during the presentation ceremony as jockey William Buick received his trophy for the win.

Saffie Osborne, who last month became the first woman to ride the winner of a British Classic, said it was a “real honour” to meet the Queen.

“It’s amazing to have her here,” she said.

“It’s quite clear how much she loves British racing and this is one of the best days’ racing in the world so to have her support and for her to be here is a real honour for all of us.

“On a personal note, I think my granny will be over the moon that I’ve met her.

“She loves the royal family, as do we all.”

Camilla also met 14-year-old Camilla Froggatt, the winner of the pony race.

The King and Queen have taken on the late Queen’s role as racing’s most high-profile supporters.

They have continued to race the late Queen’s stable of horses and have become enthusiastic and passionate horse owners.
