Baywatch reboot gets US release date confirmed as classic series returns with Arrow favourite

Translate

Baywatch’s reboot has been much anticipated since 2025 – and now we finally know when it will arrive.

The new series will pick up with Arrow star Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, the captain of the life-saving team on Santa Monica Beach in California.

As long-time fans may recognise the surname, Hobie is also the son of Mitch Buchannon, the character made famous by David Hasselhoff in the original series.

Following his father’s lifeguard legacy, Hobie finds his world upended when his own estranged daughter, Charlie Vale (Jessica Belkin), arrives on his doorstep from Texas – eager to learn the family trade.

On a beach, Jessica Belkin films Baywatch in a red one-piece swimming costume tending to a wound on the stomach of an actor lying on the floor. He has propped himself up with his hands and looks to be in pain, and is wearing a black wetsuit that has been cut open.

From plane crashes to near-drownings, Hobie and his team – completed by Trina (Pretty Little Liars’ Shay Mitchell), Nat (Hassie Harrison), Luke (Noah Beck), Brad (Thaddeus LaGrone), Selene (Brooks Nader) and Grace (Livvy Dunne) – will be ready to tackle whatever the beaches throw at them.

According to the official synopsis by network Fox, Baywatch fans "can expect all the adrenaline-fuelled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original – now with a new cast, contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges, and a renewed mission to save lives along Los Angeles' beaches".

Baywatch arrives on screens in the US from Wednesday 6 January 2027 at 9pm on Fox, and will have an initial 12-episode run.

While it’s been confirmed the revival of the '90s TV favourite will air on Sky in the UK this January, the exact date the show will hit this side of the Atlantic has yet to be announced.

Radio Times has contacted Sky for comment.

As well as the new recruits, fans have already been teased that several original characters will be making an appearance on the series.

Among them are David Chokachi returning as Cody Madison and Erika Eleniak as former lifeguard Shauni McClain. Both have recurring roles.

While it’s not been confirmed, having Mitch Buchannon’s son leading the team also teases the potential return of Hasselhoff for a cameo.

Pamela Anderson, who shot to fame as CJ in the original series, is also not confirmed to be making any kind of appearance – though fans are already hoping to see her on the beach once more.
