2026 CAF Awards: Ghana’s Black Stars in contention for National Team of the Year honour

Translate

Ghana’s Black Stars have been nominated for the Men’s National Team of the Year at the 2026 CAF Awards.

The men’s senior national team put up a good run of form, winning five of their six matches to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars made it to the knockout phase of the global competition for the first time since 2010.

Ghana will have to battle with nine others – Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia – for the prize.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have endured a difficult spell, recording just one victory in their last eight matches across all competitions.

Their struggles have also affected their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign, with Ghana losing their opening two Group C matches against Ivory Coast and The Gambia.

The results have left Ghana at the bottom of Group C, while Ivory Coast and The Gambia occupy the top positions with six points each.

Ghana will face Somalia in a double-header in mid-November in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
