Ilocos Norte town inaugurates P10-M super health center

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — Residents of Nueva Era town in nearby Ilocos Norte now have greater access to primary healthcare services following the opening of a P10-million Super Health Center funded by the Department of Health (DOH).

The DOH in the Ilocos Region led the turnover and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday (Sept. 8) for the newly constructed Nueva Era Super Health Center, which was funded under the agency’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) for fiscal year 2023.

The facility was built through a partnership between the DOH and the Nueva Era local government, with support from Ilocos Norte Second District Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba.

The center will serve as an advanced primary care hub, providing diagnostic services, outpatient care, pharmacy services, and emergency maternal and medical care.

Officials said the facility would help address geographical barriers to healthcare by reducing the need for residents to travel to distant cities for medical consultations and basic health services.

Barba and John Lee Gacusan, DOH-Ilocos Norte Provincial Health Team Leader, led the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Nueva Era Mayor Aldrin Garvida.

Garvida said the local government remained committed to improving health infrastructure and bringing essential services closer to grassroots communities.
