A 10-year-old boy has been left in a critical condition after a serious crash involving three vehicles on an A-road in the Scottish borders, Scotland Police have said.

The boy is one of five people taken to hospital after the crash which happed on the A701 between Broughton and Blyth Bridge at around 12.15pm on Friday.

The force said a white Seat Leon, black Audi Q5 and a red Jaguar F Pace were involved.

The 10-year-old boy was a passenger in the Seat Leon and was taken to hospital for treatment where he “remains in a critical condition”, it added.

Two male drivers of the Seat Leon and Jaguar F Pace were also taken to hospital for treatment to “serious injuries”, the police said.

A teenage boy who was a passenger in the Seat Leon and a woman who was a passenger in the Audi Q5 were also taken to hospital for treatment.

The A-road was closed to allow for inquiries to be carried out and re-opened at around 7.10pm on Friday.

Sergeant Grant Hastie said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw the vehicles prior, and has yet to speak to officers to come forward with any information that could assist with our investigation.

“I’d also ask that those driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything of significance.”

The force has asked anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1186 of October 16 2026.
