GEORGE TOWN, Oct 19 — A total of 280 federal development projects in Penang, with a combined cost of RM33.22 billion, have been approved under the Second Rolling Plan (RP2) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for 2027.

In a statement today, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the projects comprise 44 new projects and 236 ongoing projects, with RM2.68 billion allocated for implementation in 2027.

The 44 new projects have a combined cost of RM578.29 million, with RM63.71 million allocated for next year, he said.

Of these, four state priority projects submitted by the Penang state government in February have also been approved, Chow said.

The four projects are the Sungai Keluang Ubi Flood Mitigation Scheme in Central Seberang Perai; the upgrading of Jalan Bukit Tambun FT149 from the Jalan Persekutuan FT001 junction to the Bukit Tambun Selatan Toll junction in Simpang Ampat, South Seberang Perai; the Sungai Perai Flood Mitigation Scheme (Phase 2) in Central Seberang Perai; and the mapping and development of the state’s groundwater resources.

Chow said the four projects have a combined cost of RM96.95 million, with RM2.2 million allocated for 2027.

Another state priority project, the Penang STEM Talent Blueprint, had been approved earlier under the First Rolling Plan (RP1) of the 13MP, at a cost of RM12.3 million, he added.

“The state government will continue to strengthen strategic cooperation with the federal government to ensure development allocations are optimally utilised to advance the state and improve the people’s well-being.

“This includes joint efforts to establish the Penang Technology Financial Centre, envisioned as the country’s technology-focused financial hub. The centre is expected to contribute RM12.1 billion to gross domestic product and support more than 71,000 jobs over the next 15 years,” he said. — Bernama
