Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake World Map Size Officially Confirmed

It was earlier this year that Nintendo finally gave The Legend of Zelda fans the news that they had been waiting for: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. Set to arrive this November for the Nintendo Switch 2, it will be the first remake since 2011's Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS.

As a remake of the 1998 release for the Nintendo 64, the story will follow Link as he explores Hyrule across two different time periods in order to defeat Ganondorf. With the remake offering a "stylized realism" art style, it will also feature some quality-of-life improvements, such as the inclusion of running, faster swimming, motion control aiming, full camera control, and button-based jumping. Not only that, but players will be able to use the Nintendo Switch 2 microphone to activate ocarina songs.

Now, Nintendo has shared a further update about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, including its brand-new open-world map. On its official social media, Nintendo shared artwork of the game's map complete with a fantasy-esque artstyle. The map features all of the iconic maps that fans will remember from the original game, such as Hyrule Field, Hyrule Castle, Death Mountain, Zora's Domain, Kokiri Forest, Lake Hylia and Gerudo Valley.

The map looks pretty extensive, and we can expect Link to have access to this alongside an interactive map. Not only that, but compared to the original Nintendo 64 map, it looks pretty different, and just goes to show the advancements in game design over the past two decades. Of course, with any open-world map, more of the map and its points of interest will be uncovered as you progress through the game, so we can only imagine how detailed it will look at the end.

Over on r/zelda, fans discuss the side-by-side map comparisons, with one user posting, "Just wanted to give people the side by side because it’s interesting. There’s a surprising amount of difference, and locations being shifted. Hyrule field is very de-emphasized in the new map since the regions on the eastern side are expanded. For some reason, the western ones, Lake Hylia and Gerudo Desert, are not given the same treatment, so the whole thing skews very heavily to one side."

One comment read, "I like that the graveyard has been pushed further back behind Kakariko and closer to Death Mountain. That’s where the graveyard in the original The Legend of Zelda was." Another pointed out something interesting, adding, "Its drawn as if there was a part missing to the west, bizarre… maybe hidden new content?"

It remains to be seen how this map will look in game when The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake launches this November for the Nintendo Switch 2.
