Couple stabbed by son while asleep in Zamboanga City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — A 52-year-old man and his 51-year-old wife were rushed to the hospital after they were allegedly stabbed by their own son while asleep in their residence at Purok 6, Star Apple Drive, Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City early Monday morning, Nov. 2.

The Zamboanga City Police Station 3 (ZCPS3) identified the suspect as the couple’s 27-year-old son, who remains at large as of press time.

Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred around 5:20 a.m.

According to the father, he and his wife were sleeping when the suspect suddenly attacked them with a kitchen knife without any apparent reason.

The father suffered a stab wound to his left chest, while the mother sustained multiple stab wounds across different parts of her body. Following the attack, the suspect immediately fled in an unknown direction.

The couple’s 19-year-old daughter promptly alerted the police about the incident.

Responding emergency workers from Barangay Sangali transported the victims to the Zamboanga Regional Medical Center for emergency medical treatment. The couple was later transferred to the Zamboanga City Medical Center for further care.

Police said the victims remain undecided on whether to file formal charges against the suspect, citing their familial relationship.

Meanwhile, the city police have launched a hot pursuit operation to track down and arrest the suspect. INQ
