Astro Originals, Netflix announce September 11 premiere for ‘Kudrat 1968: High Council’ (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — Fans of Projek: High Council will soon get to see what came before the acclaimed series, with Kudrat 1968: High Council set to premiere on September 11.

The four-episode prequel series will be available across Astro’s platforms and Netflix, before its story continues in a feature film slated to hit Malaysian cinemas later this year.

The release date was announced yesterday during a screening of the first episode, alongside the reveal of additional cast members for the highly anticipated project.

Among the latest names joining the cast are Zamarul Hisham, Nabila Huda, Datuk Seri Eizlan Yusof, Aziz M. Osman, Aleza Shadan, Yasmin Hani, Rusdi Ramli, Muzayyin Mahyuddin, Johnny Gillett, Jebat Zulfar, Balkisyh Semundur Khan, Umar Shakur, Nix Wong, Mokhtar Mohsin and Zarul Zaidee.

They join the previously announced lead cast of Zarif Ghazzi, Mierul Aiman, Akmal Asyraf, Dai Fuad, Evertts Gomes and Chech Harith, who were introduced during a cast announcement at Robert’s Theatre, The Campus in Ampang, early last month.

It was also announced last month that Kudrat 1968: High Council would be told across two formats, in what the production describes as a first-of-its-kind approach in Malaysia.

Dubbed one-story, two-format, the project will first unfold through a four-episode Astro Originals series before continuing as a feature film on the big screen.

Rather than treating the series and film as separate adaptations, both formats will form part of the same narrative, with the series establishing the characters and world before leading into the cinematic chapter.

“The High Council brand continues to grow stronger with the introduction of Kudrat 1968: High Council,” said executive producer of Kudrat 1968: High Council and head of Astro Shaw, Raja Jastina Raja Arshad.

“Since unveiling the six main cast members and the teaser of this prequel world, we have seen an overwhelming level of excitement from audiences, who have begun forming their own theories and connections between the characters.

“This is not just a return to the origins of High Council, but a story that reflects real-world dynamics, particularly the divide between social classes within a system.

“These structures exist everywhere, and through this narrative, we hope to create space for reflection on how such systems shape identity, choices, and conflict in life,” she said in a statement.

Kudrat 1968: High Council is helmed by showrunner Zulaikha Zakaria alongside co-director Khairi Asyraff.

The cinema release date for Kudrat 1968: High Council movie has yet to be announced.
