Nicolo Tresoldi says that he is ‘extremely grateful’ after a positive conversation with Germany national team head coach Jurgen Klopp, says that it is a ‘similar’ situation with Roberto Mancini but insists that he has still not come to a final decision over his international allegiance at senior level: ‘We’ll see’.

Tresoldi: ‘Positive’ conversations with both Klopp and Mancini

22-year-old Tresoldi has made it clear that he wishes to focus on completing the European Championship campaign with the Germany U21 squad before coming to a final decision as to whether he will represent Germany or Italy at senior international level.

Tresoldi was born in Cagliari to an Italian father and an Argentine mother of Italian descent, but moved to Germany as a teenager and began representing the youth sides of Hannover 96. He has since represented Germany at U19 level and has gone on to score a whopping 16 goals from 27 matches for the U21s.

The sought-after centre-forward has made it clear that he wanted to complete the qualifying campaign for the U21 European Championship with Germany, and potentially play in the final tournament next summer, before making a final decision on his international allegiance at senior level.

He was able to discuss the matter in an interview with Ran Fußball ahead of Germany U21s’ 2-0 victory over Georgia on Tuesday evening, which confirmed their spot in the final tournament next summer.

Tresoldi admits that he has had positive discussions with Germany senior head coach Klopp, but insists that he has not yet made up his mind.

“We had a very good exchange of views, I hope I made a good impression on him,” said Tresoldi when discussing his recent talks with Klopp.

“He’s a great coach and also a wonderful person. I’m very grateful to him for the conversation and for his support. I was extremely nervous, I told my parents straight away and they were nervous, too. But in the end, it was just a very positive conversation.”

There have been similar chats with Mancini as well.

“Roberto Mancini has also contacted me, it was a similar situation. For me, it’s special to have two great coaches take the time to talk to me. It shows that I’m on the right track. I’m very grateful to both of them for that. We’ll see what happens.

“My attention is completely focused on the U21s, not Germany or Italy. For me, everything revolves around these games. I want to win, score goals and then we’ll see what happens.”
