Tom Hardy teases Harry becoming more 'unpredictable' in MobLand season 2

The first season of hit Paramount+ show MobLand introduced us to the Harrigans, a crime family led by Pierce Brosnan's Conrad and Helen Mirren's Maeve, as well as their loyal fixer Harry Da Souza.

Harry, played by Tom Hardy, is shown to be endlessly competent and composed, completing his morally dubious jobs with an unflappable nature.

Now, however, Hardy has teased that we could see that composure start to crack in season 2, saying that "we have to" see that breakdown at some point.

"I think we have to," Hardy said, when speaking exclusively with Radio Times. "We have to want that in some aspect, and I think also I have to be mindful that if there was 10 seasons of this, when do you choose that point? And in what story, and in what characters, in what combination?

"So that's both a short game and a long game, and another one that I don't think is easy to answer. Does that make sense? Because then you're talking about his unpredictability, his danger, his threat, his emotional landscape, and it's always tested."

Meanwhile, Hardy's co-star Lara Pulver, who plays Bella, explained that the entire show is becoming more "unpredictable" in season 2, as the cast get used to pushing its boundaries.

"I think season 1, tonally, we knew it was a Guy Ritchie show, we all know what that kind of stylised, heightened world is, and yet we were all tonally working out how we fit in in this world," Pulver told Radio Times. "And I think the success of season 1, and then going into season 2, realising actually there's no limitations.

"There's no ceiling in this world. Anything's possible. There's no right or wrong because these characters literally turn on a dime every two seconds. I feel like you should never feel fully comfortable, you should never feel like they're telling their truth, or if it seems like it, they change. It's so unpredictable.

"And we don't ever see all the scripts before we shoot, and I think there's kind of magic in that because we could never be one step ahead as actors either. So choices that we've made in earlier eps, we can do a whole 180 on, and we're given license to play in that way.

"I think figuring out alliances, loyalties, secrets… I think it just all adds to the messiness of MobLand, which is really, really fun to play and watch."

The synopsis for MobLand season 2 says that it shows the Harrigans struggling "to show a unified front as rising rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire – and Harry Da Souza, their street-smart and formidable ‘fixer,’ must walk a dangerous tightrope when tensions within the family intensify".

The synopsis continues: "As violence spills into every corner of their lives, loyalties snap, safety proves temporary, and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy."
