Asian Games 2026: Abhay Singh settles for silver after straight-game loss to Eain Yow in squash final

India’s Abhay Singh finished with the men’s singles squash silver medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 after going down 9-11, 5-11, 5-11 to Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow in the final at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena on Sunday.

Abhay, who had not dropped a game on his way to the final, stayed with the defending champion for much of the opener. The Indian attempted to disrupt Eain Yow with drop shots, but too many of those attempts found the tin as the Malaysian edged the first game 11-9.

Eain Yow began to pull away in the second. Abhay found himself four points behind at one stage and struggled to close the gap as the Malaysian controlled the rallies and raced to an 11-5 win.

Abhay made a brighter start to the third, but Eain Yow gradually reeled him in. With Abhay’s choice of shots failing to produce the desired openings, the Malaysian closed out another 11-5 game to seal the title.

Eain Yow completed his campaign without dropping a game and successfully defended the title he won at Hangzhou 2022.

The triumph also gave Malaysia its fifth men’s singles squash gold since the sport made its Asian Games debut in 1998.

Abhay will next turn his attention to the men’s team event.
