Bukidnon’s Valencia City suspends classes as teen held over online threats

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — The local government unit (LGU) here suspended face-to-face classes in public and private schools at all levels on Monday, Aug. 23, due to security threats allegedly posted on social media by a teenager.
The teenager had been traced, located and is now in police custody.
Mayor Amie Galario issued Executive Order No. 093, Series of 2026 on Sunday, suspending in-person classes as a continued precautionary measure.

The social media threats reportedly warned of gun and grenade attacks targeting local schools.

Security concerns were taken seriously after posts surfaced on Saturday morning alerting the public about supposed planned attacks during school hours on Monday, August 24.
The posts mentioned secondary students from Grade 9 up to senior high school, as well as teachers.
Authorities moved swiftly after tracing the online activities.
A 15-year-old male student and resident of Kawayanon, Barangay Lumbo here was apprehended on Saturday evening, Aug. 22, during a search and locate operation.

Police identified the suspect as the individual behind the “Ailon Berry” Facebook account, which posted threats targeting Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Maramag, Bukidnon.
The suspect also allegedly identified San Augustine Institute of Technology (SAIT), Philippine College Foundation (PCF), Batangan Integrated School, and Lumbo Integrated School in Valencia City.

The minor is currently in the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Valencia City, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
To ensure educational continuity while campuses remain closed, schools have been directed to shift to modular distance learning or other appropriate alternative learning modalities.
