AVS to hold pet adoption drive in Singapore’s CBD for the first time

SINGAPORE – Looking to welcome a new furry friend into your home?

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) is set to bring its adoption drive to the heart of the city from Aug 27 to 29, with more than 10 animal groups on showcase.

Paws In The City, AVS’ first pet event in the central business district, will be held at the Guoco Tower Urban Park in Tanjong Pagar from 11am to 8pm.

There will be a range of animals up for adoption at the event, including dogs, cats, small mammals and even parrots.

“By bringing the adoption drive to a central and easily accessible location, we hope to reach a wider audience and inspire more members of the public to consider pet adoption and give these animals the opportunity to find a forever home,” said Anna Wong, group director of community animal management at AVS, in a statement.

For those hoping to learn more about adoption and pet ownership, the event will feature booths where visitors can chat with AVS staff about dog training, as well as responsible pet care.

There will also be a talk on Aug 28 by Every Stray Matters about its dog fostering programme, where visitors can learn about the responsible rehoming of dogs and how this helps manage the community dog population in Singapore.

Besides the adoption drive, visitors can also shop for animal-related products and take part in a host of activities with their furry companions.

Pawrents can look forward to activities such as a DIY dog toy workshop, a treasure hunt for dogs to find hidden treats, and the Paw Race, in which dogs and owners race other teams.

They can also participate in the Best Ridiculously Dressed Owner and Dog Contest for a chance to win prizes.

Caricature artists will be present on all three days of the event, with 50 per cent of proceeds to go towards feeding free-roaming dogs.
