Joao Pedro suffers head injury ahead of International break

Translate

Chelsea Football Club have suffered an injury setback with João Pedro ruled out of Brazil’s upcoming international fixtures after picking up an injury.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed on Wednesday that the 24-year-old striker has withdrawn from Carlo Ancelotti’s squad and will be replaced by Fluminense forward Martinelli.

The nature of João Pedro’s injury have not yet been disclosed, while Chelsea are yet to issue a detailed update on his condition. The forward was absent from part of Chelsea’s training session on Tuesday, raising concerns about his fitness.

The timing is particularly frustrating for João Pedro, who had been recalled to the Brazil squad after missing the 2026 World Cup. He has made an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign, scoring three goals in six appearances and winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.

Brazil are scheduled to face Australia twice, on September 25 and 29, before playing India on October 3 during the extended FIFA international window. João Pedro will now miss those matches, while Chelsea will assess whether he can recover in time for their fixtures after the international break.
