Jenna Ortega Says She’ll Be “Off TV For Awhile” After ‘Wednesday’ Ends

Jenna Ortega doesn’t plan to do another TV series for a while after Netflix‘s Wednesday wraps.

The actress says she expects to take a break from the medium when the hit series concludes.

Her comments came during a Happy Sad Confused interview when the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star was asked about whether she would commit to another franchise.

“I actually haven’t had a lot of franchise conversations,” she said. “What I’m meant to do will come and find me. I think after Wednesday, I’ll probably be off the TV for a while. You know I had many years doing [TV]. I was bouncing from show to show as a kid and I want to leave time for new things.”

To be clear, there’s been no word that Wednesday is ending with its upcoming third season, or that Ortega is exiting the show. But Ortega raised eyebrows by telling Esquire in August, “It’s only been in the last year or so—especially with the show coming to a head and getting ready to enter this next chapter in my life and career—that I’ve really honed in.”

And back in 2023, Ortega told The Sunday Times, “I had done so much TV in my life, all I’ve ever wanted to do is film.”

Indeed, Ortega had a slew of TV roles leading up to 2022’s Wednesday, including Jane the Virgin and Stuck in the Middle. The debut season of Wednesday — along with her roles in Scream and X — made Ortega one of Hollywood’s most in-demand young actors, leading to a slew of feature film opportunities.

Ortega is currently promoting the Taika Waititi film Klara and the Sun, which opens Friday. She stars as an artificial companion opposite Amy Adams. She also has a dark comedy thriller from Cathy Yan titled The Gallerist, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year. She also stars in J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi fantasy The Great Beyond that’s coming Oct. 1, 2027. Ortega is also set to star in a remake of the thriller Single White Female that’s in development.

As for Wednesday, filming on season three recently wrapped and there’s not a release date yet announced, but expect the show sometime mid-to-late 2027.
