‘The Biggest Little Farm’ Sequel Series to Debut Next Month in Follow-Up to 2019 Documentary (Exclusive)

A sequel series to the documentary The Biggest Little Farm is ready to spring to life.

John and Molly Chester, who first captivated audiences with their 2019 feature, are set to return for the 12-part docuseries The Biggest Little Farm Series, which launches on YouTube on Nov. 8, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. John Chester directed the 2019 documentary that focused on the couple working to establish their Apricot Lane Farms in Moorpark, California.

Neon released the film in May 2019 after it premiered at Telluride. The project helped bring attention to regenerative farming and the importance of maintaining a sustainable ecosystem where people and animals can thrive together. Prior to her shift to farming, Molly Chester worked as a private chef in Los Angeles and was dedicated to techniques aiding digestion.

Chester returns to helm The Biggest Little Farm Series, which spans more than 15 years of filming on location in California’s Ventura County. Hailing from FarmLore Films, LLC, the docuseries counts Chester, Erica Messer, Regina K. Scully and Sandra Keats as executive producers. Amy Overbeck and Ali Galante serve as co-executive producers, while Tom Quinn, Paul Gurinas and Jessica Gurinas are producers. Artemis Rising Foundation is the presenting sponsor, and Alex Somers is the series composer.

“People often ask us what happened after the film ended. The truth is, nature never stopped challenging our sometimes embarrassing attempts to coexist with her,” says filmmaker John Chester. “Making The Biggest Little Farm Series gave us the chance to share those intense setbacks, but also the improbable moments of wonder that kept restoring our hope. I’ve come to believe that if more people understood the ways nature endures, adapts, and recovers, we might see a little less gloom and more possibility for the future.”

He continues, “Thanks to our presenting sponsor, Artemis Rising Foundation, the series will stream free on YouTube to a global audience. It’s a big gamble to allow the imperfect version of ourselves to be exposed like this. Which is why I think families, young and old, regardless of their beliefs, might see themselves reflected. Is there reason for hope? I think folks who watch The Biggest Little Farm Series can judge for themselves. I promise where it leads no one could have expected.”

The series and John Chester are represented by David Kirsch and Rena Ronson of UTA.
