Translate

The recent strength in Hong Kong’s exports extended into August, with the value jumping by 53 per cent to HK$667.9 billion (US$85.6 billion) – the second-highest level on record after July’s peak – on strong demand for artificial intelligence-related products.

Provisional figures released by the Census and Statistics Department on Thursday showed that the total value of exports rose to HK$667.9 billion last month, following a 50.7 per cent surge in July.

Imports, meanwhile, rose 60 per cent to HK$739.1 billion, leading to a trade deficit of HK$71.2 billion, which is equivalent to 9.6 per cent of the value of imports of goods in August.

August’s exports were the second highest on record, after an all-time high of HK$672.51 billion in July.
