Sakumono murder: Key suspect arrested from his hideout

Translate

The key suspect in the killing of 47-year-old entrepreneur Irene Atubiga and her 57-year-old uncle, George Atubiga, at Sakumono in Accra has been arrested.

The Ghana Police Service said it arrested the suspect, Samuel Osei Anto Christopher, who had been on the run since the incident, at his hideout.

In a brief update issued on Sunday, November 1, the Police said: “The key suspect in the Sakumono murder case, Samuel Osei Anto Christopher, who was on the run, has been arrested from his hideout. Full details will be communicated.”

The arrest follows a manhunt launched by the Police after the suspect allegedly shot and killed the two relatives at their residence in NTHC Estate, Sakumono, on Friday, October 30, 2026.

Irene, who was the Chief Executive Officer of Kussa Shea Bliss, a shea butter-based skincare and personal care products company, was reportedly shot alongside her uncle during an encounter with the suspect.

She was a mother of two young boys, according to tributes and information shared on social media by people close to her following her death.

Financial dispute suspected

Preliminary investigations by the Police suggested that the killings may have been triggered by a financial dispute involving George Atubiga and the suspect.

According to the Police, George had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto Christopher but had failed to repay the amount.

The suspect reportedly visited the victims' residence on the morning of Friday, October 30, accompanied by a woman identified as Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment.

A misunderstanding allegedly ensued during the encounter, after which the suspect reportedly shot and killed George and his niece, Irene.

Officers from the Sakumono District Police Command who responded to information about the incident found the two victims lying in pools of blood.

They were rushed to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead by a medical officer. Their bodies were subsequently deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police arrested female accomplice

Following the incident, the Police arrested Beatrice Mumuni, 47, who was allegedly with the suspect when he visited the victims' residence.

She was suspected of leading Osei Anto Christopher to the residence before the shooting.

The Police subsequently declared the principal suspect wanted and announced a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information leading to his arrest.

His arrest on Sunday brings an end to the manhunt, although the Police are yet to communicate further details about the circumstances of his capture.

The Police say full details of the arrest will be communicated in a subsequent update.
