A new House of David release is coming.
Created by Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, the Prime Video series chronicles the rise of biblical figure David as he goes from a shepherd boy to a king. First premiering in 2025, House of David season 2 brought the series back to the small screen this past March, and a season 3 is now confirmed to be in the works.
Prior to season 3, however, it has now been revealed that House of David is getting an exciting new release on November 17 in the form of a DVD for season 2. The eight-episode physical media edition will feature a total runtime of 458 minutes, subtitle options for English and Spanish, and 2.0 Dolby Audio. The full synopsis for season 2 is included below:
In Season Two of House of David, Israel teeters on the brink of chaos as Saul’s rule unravels. David’s victories and growing renown transform him from shepherd to warrior, drawing devotion and deadly envy. The dawn of the Age of Iron reshapes every battle, with new weapons altering the balance of power. As rival tribes, Philistines, and fractured families push Israel toward civil war, faith and power collide in a kingdom-shaking struggle over the nation’s future.
House of David season 1 quickly became a major viewership success for Prime Video, drawing more than 40 million viewers globally. The debut outing also got its own DVD release, making it no surprise that season 2 is getting the same treatment.
Critically, House of David season 2 was generally well received. The second season of the biblical epic has a 67% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but it's with audiences that the sophomore outing really excelled. The Popcornmeter for season 2 is a strong 89%.
Starring Michael Iskander, Stephen Lang, Ali Suliman, Indy Lewis, Ethan Kai, Oded Fehr, Yali Topol Margalith, Davood Ghadami, and Aury Albi, among others, the show's season 2 performance was strong enough to earn a season 3 renewal. Filming on House of David season 3 got underway on September 14 and is expected to conclude in mid-December. While no release date has been shared for season 3 just yet, it's likely the Prime Video show will return at some point next year.
House of David season 3 isn't the only anticipated biblical tale on the way next year, with part one of Mel Gibson's two-part The Resurrection of the Christ slated to hit theaters on May 6, with part two to follow on May 25, 2028. If part one is a hit, it could generate even more hype for the third outing of the Prime Video show.
It's getting less common for shows to get physical media releases, but House of David season 2's DVD release speaks to the market that still exists for this format. In an age when digital-only releases can just disappear, physical media ensures that movies and TV shows will remain accessible to viewers for years to come, no subscription fee required.
