World Athletics Ultimate Championships 2026 schedule: Events on today

The World Athletics Ultimate Championships burst into life in Budapest on Friday – with an action-packed schedule on the opening day.

The cream of the athletics crop are on show at the Gyula Zsivotzky National Athletics Centre in the inaugural edition of this biennial season-ending event.

Limited fields – made up of defending world, Olympic and Diamond League champions, and other rankings toppers – shorter sessions in a streamlined format made for TV audiences and a record $10 million prize fund should make for a thrilling weekend.

Team GB will be eyeing a medal right from the start as the 4x100m mixed relay, an event they stormed to the title in at the European Championships earlier this summer, is the first track event.

Jaz Sawyers goes for gold in the women's long jump final a little later on, while Matthew Hudson-Smith (400m) and Keely Hodgkinson (800m) run in their semi-finals.

Friday also sees global superstar Mondo Duplantis try to add another title to his glittering CV in the men's pole vault final – and the evening wraps up with the finals of the women's 100m hurdles and men's 110m hurdles.
