A 16-year-old schoolgirl was found dead at a secondary school in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, Johor, yesterday afternoon.

The Form Four student was reportedly found by her grandmother, who went to the school after realising that she had not returned home at about 5.30pm after attending a tuition class, according to Harian Metro.

The student was believed to have died after she was found lying weak in the school hall, with dried blood stains on her body.

Johor deputy police chief Hoo Chuan Huat urged the public and media to give authorities room to investigate the incident.

He said police were still gathering information and that it was too early to confirm any details.

“We are in the process of obtaining information. Just like reporters, we also need to get the information. I cannot say whether it (speculation) is true or not because we are still gathering information.

“Give us the space to conduct the investigation,” Astro Awani quoted him as saying.
