Injury blow for Frosinone as four-goal Raimondo withdraws from Italy squad

Antonio Raimondo has been released from Italy’s Under-21 squad and is now uncertain for Frosinone’s trip to Napoli when Serie A resumes.

According to Il Napolista, the FIGC confirmed the striker was assessed as unavailable for the upcoming fixtures and would leave the camp. Silvio Baldini’s squad trained on Monday afternoon without him, ahead of Wednesday’s departure for Yerevan and Thursday’s European Championship qualifier against Armenia.

Raimondo among Serie A’s top scorers

The timing is unhelpful for Frosinone. Raimondo has been one of the stories of the season’s opening weeks, scoring four times for Massimiliano Alvini’s newly-promoted side, a tally matched by Lautaro Martinez and Varela, and bettered only by Donyell Malen.

He is on loan from Bologna and has quickly become Frosinone’s main attacking outlet alongside Giorgi Kvernadze, whose own form has attracted Roma and prompted a €25m valuation.

There is still more than ten days until the Maradona fixture, so a recovery is not out of the question. The federation has not specified the nature of the problem.
